Namaste

Nora has been sharing the teachings of Yoga as a full-time Yoga teacher since 2011 when she taught in Hong Kong for six years, and through conscious manifestation, she and her partner, Jason, were called to Chennai, South India in 2016 where they created, served, and uplifted a community through Yoga, sound, and music while leading retreats, trainings, and workshops internationally.

At Think Off the Mat, Nora shares the perennial teachings and practices of Yoga and how they are still so powerfully relevant even today. She spent six years in Mother India, being nurtured and nourished in her sacred soil, and immersing herself deeply in the spiritual fabric of life there. She looks forward to sharing her practice and these teachings in Vancouver, Canada.

“She is not only my Yoga guru, she is my life teacher too.”

— ASHOK JAISWAL, HONG KONG

Nora has been lovingly and unconditionally blessed by the sacred teachings, which have fueled her to share these teachings with others. She is initiated into the Śri Vidya lineage through the teachings of Śrī Amṛtanānda Sarasvatī of Devipuram, seeking refuge in the bosom of the Divine Mother, and further nourishes her mind, body, and soul with the teachings of Sri Ma Anandamayi, Sri T Krishnamacharya, Ramana Maharshi, and Paramahansa Yogananda.

Nora integrates Hatha Yoga, through Yogāsanas (postures) and Prānāyama (breathwork), Nada Yoga (sound), Mantra Yoga (Vedic chanting and Sanskrit), Jñāna Yoga (knowledge and contemplation), Rāja Yoga (meditation), Bhakti Yoga (devotion), and Āyurveda.

She loves a playful and mindful Yogāsana practice, honoring skeletal differentiation and emphasizing functional anatomical awareness, and each individual’s unique alignment, while the longer-held, passive postures in Yin Yoga beautifully balance the practice. When reflecting on her practice, Nora believes āsanas (postures) can offer deeper insights, “Handstands and śavāsana, we have to appreciate the dualities in life to understand that they complement each other and are truly one.”

Sacred and ancient teachings of Yoga.

Meditation is the hallmark of Yoga. “It is an intimate, personal time with your highest Self that is one with the Divine, sitting and being with all that there is. It charges us up with Divine grace.”

Atha Yogānuśasanam Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras 1:1 NOW is the exposition of Yoga. “The self-help books I turn to are the sacred and ancient teachings of Yoga. Relevant then, and even more so, now. The teachings provide tools to create spaciousness and ease, which offer mental and emotional clarity. The practice of asking ourselves “Who am I?” enables us to loosen our grip on the complexities of daily living.”

Awareness & Gratitude

Nora is a bhakta at heart. “The quickest and most direct way of breaking open the hardened heart and mind is through bhakti and kirtan, devotional chanting. It is exalted communion with the Divine. The heart swells and the spirit soars”.

Her expression and practice of Karma Yoga (service and action) are woven into the daily practice by being a voice and an advocate for beautiful Mother Earth. Ahimsa, non-violence, is an integral part of sadhana, daily spiritual practice, with compassion for all living beings. Nora is a vegan activist and supports animal cruelty-free products through conscious living and eating with awareness and gratitude.

“Yoga awakens us to see ourselves as Divine and the Divinity in all of creation, looking beyond the color of our skin, the language we speak, who we choose to love, what we choose to wear, religion, and gender. Trust and stand firm in the space of awareness, love, and light, and relax into it. I humbly hold that space for anyone who wishes to stand with me.”
